NFC stands for near-field communication. It is the same technology your phone already uses to tap-to-pay at a card reader, and it has been built into every mainstream phone for years. NipTip puts a tiny NFC chip inside a pastie so the thing being tapped is you, and the money goes straight to your own payment link.

What happens when someone taps you
- They hold the top of their phone against your NipTip.
- Their phone reads the chip and shows a notification.
- They tap it and your payment link opens — Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, whatever you set.
- They send the tip. It lands in your account.
The whole thing takes about four seconds, and the person tipping you does not have to install anything or make an account.
Do they need an app?
No. This is the part people do not believe. NFC reading is built into the operating system on every modern iPhone and Android. There is nothing to download on their side, and nothing to download on yours either.
If their phone is very old, or NFC is switched off in their settings, it will not read — in that case just tell them your handle the old-fashioned way.
Where does the money actually go?
Straight from them to you. Your NipTip opens your link, so the payment happens between their payment app and your account. It never passes through NipTip, which means we cannot take a cut and we never see your money.

Can I change my link later?
Yes, for free, as many times as you want. Changed apps, changed your handle, changed your whole name — message us and we will reprogram it. The chip does not expire.
Is it safe?
NFC only works at a range of a couple of centimetres, so nobody can read your NipTip from across the room. The chip holds a link and nothing else — no card details, no bank information, no personal data. The worst thing someone can do by tapping you is send you money.
Why this matters if you earn tips
Cash has quietly disappeared. Dancers, bartenders, servers, performers and hosts all noticed the same thing at the same time: people want to tip, they just do not have anything in their pocket to tip with. Shouting your Venmo across a loud room does not work, and asking someone to type a handle into their phone loses most of them.
A tap loses nobody. It is the shortest possible distance between they want to pay you and you have been paid.
