We asked the babes earning the most what they actually say out loud. Almost none of it was about the technology. All of it was about making the other person feel clever for participating.
1. "You don't need cash — tap your phone here."
The workhorse. Short, solves their problem, no explanation. Use this one nine times out of ten.
2. "Watch this."
People will do almost anything to see a trick. Frame it as a demo and they tap out of curiosity, then tip because they already have their phone open.
3. "Top of your phone, right here."
Not a pitch, just aim. Most failed taps are a targeting problem and this one line fixes it.
4. "It goes straight to me. Nobody takes a cut."
This lands harder than you would expect. People genuinely like knowing the money is not being skimmed on its way to you.
5. "Your friend needs to see this."
One tap becomes four. The group is the unit, not the person.
6. "Whatever you would have had in your pocket."
Never name a number and never leave it totally open. This anchors it without you pricing yourself.
7. "Tap again if you liked it."
The most underused line on this list. There is no limit, and a second tap costs them nothing but a thumb.
What nobody successful says
- "It's an NFC chip that uses near-field communication…" — you have lost them.
- "Do you have my Venmo?" — you have made it their job.
- Nothing at all — a pastie nobody knows is tappable is just a pastie.
Practise the first line until it is automatic. That one sentence is most of the money.
